Western Australia speedster Lance Morris is upbeat about his chances to debut in the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting on February 9 in India as he sees an opportunity ahead of him.

With Mitchell Starc nursing an injury and ruled out of the first Test of the upcoming series against India, it is more than a possibility that Morris will be seen wearing the baggy green.

If Australia pick two spinners in their XI, it will be an internal competition between Mitchell Swepson and Todd Murphy with Nathan Lyon almost a certainty. While a three-pacer strategy means an open door for Morris, who in this case will be in contention along with Scott Boland.

Here's what Morris said:

"I’m going to do everything I can to be as ready as possible. If we’re talking honestly, that’s probably my best chance of playing over there so we’ll see what happens.

"It’s nice to be back competing, I was probably bowling to the back of a net for four or five weeks there. It’s nice to be back in the middle and bowling to some of the best batters going around at the moment, so it’s great."

Meanwhile, Morris has done well in the ongoing Big Bash League season having taken three wickets in as many matches for Perth Scorchers.
