It's lucky I pick the team: Aaron Finch opens up on his lacklustre form

Australian skipper Aaron Finch thinks he is lucky to have the luxury of picking the team, given his average form in the last few series/tournaments.

Earlier this year, Finch retired from the ODI format, owing to his inability to provide a notable contribution, which resulted in the Australian team getting off to bad starts on most occasions.

In 19 T20Is this year, the 35-year-old has garnered 449 runs at an average of 26.41 and possesses a decent strike of 117.23.

Finch's latest outing against Sri Lanka witnessed him struggling to accelerate, with his unbeaten knock of 31 off 42 balls. His partner Marcus Stoinis (59* off 18) was the saving grace, as the hosts managed to secure a victory and stay alive in the T20 World Cup 2022.

In this regard, Finch shrugged off the concerns on his form, and reckoned that he doesn't read enough into people's opinions. Furthermore, the Aussie skipper reckoned that he is confident in his game and doesn't feel any pressure.

“It is lucky I pick the team, isn’t it,” Finch said. “Everyone’s got their opinion. That’s fine. I’ve got no issues with what people’s personal opinions are. I don’t read or listen to any of it.

“I felt really relaxed the other day. It was an anomaly in my career, just one of those days. I don’t feel any more pressure than I ever have. The only pressure is the expectation you put on yourself."

In a do-or-die fixture, Australia will lock horns with England on Friday (October 28) in MCG. With a single win in two matches, both teams will be wanting to get much-needed win under their belt.
