ENG vs IRE: Michael Vaughan lashes out at England after shocking defeat to Ireland

In a shocking turn of events, Ireland handed England a narrow five-run defeat in their second Super 12 encounter in Melbourne. Batting first, Ireland posted a defendable total of 157 runs on the board, courtesy of a fine fifty from Andrew Balbirnie. Later, they defended the total successfully riding on the DLS method, as rain played spoilsport in the middle of the game.

However, former England captain Michael Vaughan has slammed his countrymen for their shambolic outing. Vaughan, who represented England in 170 international matches, took to his Twitter handle to express his disappointment. He not only criticised England but also heaped praise on Ireland for their outstanding bowling effort.

Vaughan also lauded Ireland for defeating two T20 giants, West Indies and England, in such a big tournament.

England certainly haven't been at their best in the World Cup so far. The English batters took 18.1 overs to chase a mere 113 against Afghanistan; they were also miserable against Ireland. So, batting is the bigger issue for the Three Lions at the moment. However, the road to the semifinal will be challenging for Jos Buttler and co., as they are scheduled to lock horns with Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka up next.
