Devon Conway On Verge Of Going Past Virat Kohli in a Rare IPL Batting Feat

Devon Conway has notched up four half-centuries in succession for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing IPL 2023. Overall, the New Zealander has piled up 314 runs across seven innings this season and is currently second in the ‘Orange Cap’ race behind RCB skipper Faf du Plessis.

Since returning with just 48 runs for CSK in their first three IPL 2023 games, the opener has registered a fifty-plus score in each of his side’s next four outings. His purple patch launched with a 50 against Rajasthan Royals, and the Kiwi veteran followed it up with three fifty-plus match-winning knocks against RCB, SRH and KKR, respectively.

Conway’s prolific run with the bat has now put him on levelling terms with legendary batters Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Faf du Plessis, Shikhar Dhawan and Ishan Kishan for scoring the most successive half-centuries in IPL matches.

If the cricketer notches up another 50 in CSK’s upcoming fixture against Rajasthan Royals, he will overtake the aforementioned legends to join a rare league in IPL folklore.

Conway on verge of joining Jos Buttler among others for rare record

Table-toppers CSK are set to go up against the Rajasthan Royals on April 27 in Jaipur. The match presents an opportunity for MS Dhoni’s brigade to solidify further their number one status on the IPL 2023 points table.

Notably, the contest also marks a rare opportunity for opening batter Devon Conway to level an all-time IPL record. Fresh from whacking four consecutive half-centuries this season, the 31-year-old needs to score another 50 against Rajasthan Royals in order to join Jos Buttler, David Warner and former Indian opener Virender Sehwag.

As of now, the three dynamic openers are the only batters in IPL history to scale five fifty-plus scores. Sehwag was the first to achieve the milestone back in 2012 while playing for the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). Buttler replicated the same six years later for the Royals, while Warner achieved it the following season for SRH.

Conway made his IPL debut last year for the CSK and, since then, has solidified himself as their opener alongside young Ruturaj Gaikwad. The South African-born New Zealander has minted 566 IPL runs, all for CSK, at a productive 47.17 average.
