In a significant development, Derbyshire has signed famed Scotland spinner Mark Watt for the 2023 season.

In his reaction, Watt revealed he enjoyed his time in the Club last season and seemed excited to contribute to the team's success next year.

Here's what Watt stated

"I really enjoyed my time with Derbyshire in 2022, so it was an easy decision to come back for next season,

“You could see from the progress we made last season that we’re building something, and the opportunity to contribute for the Club across all formats is something I’m really excited about.”

On the other hand, Derbyshire head coach Micky Arthur lauded the wily spinner for his guile and accuracy. He also explained how Watt's experience could benefit the club in upcoming matches.

“It’s that little bit of aggression and innovation which can make all the difference in big games, Mark has both of those qualities in abundance,

“He’s an international spinner who has faced some of the world’s best players, he showed at the World Cup he can trouble anyone and we’re really pleased to have Mark back with us for 2023.”

Watt, 26, has represented Scotland in 97 international matches with profound success, scalping 121 wickets. He also played a key role with the ball for Derbyshire in the Vitality Blast and County Champions Trophy this year, picking up thirteen and nine wickets, respectively.

In the recently concluded T20 World Cup, the left-arm off-spinner claimed five wickets in three outings at a surreal economy of 5.83.
