West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite scaled the 5,000-run mark in Tests during his defiant second innings effort against Australia in Perth.

The cricketer formed a 116-run opening stand with Tagenarine Chanderpaul, as West Indies strives to get closer to their monumental fourth innings task.

Brathwaite, who also scored 64 during West Indies' first innings, reached his second fifty of the Test during the evening session of Day 4.

Brathwaite’s twin fifties gets him past 5,000 runs

Kraigg Brathwaite registered twin fifty-plus scores against Australia in the first Test of their two-match series. The opening batter also completed 5,000 runs in Tests, and became the 13th West Indian batsman to do so.

As his side was given an improbable 498-run target against a strong Australian attack, Brathwaite cautiously preserved his end to notch up his 29th Test fifty, despite losing his opening partner and number three Shamarh Brooks at the other.

In terms of all-time Test runs scored for West Indies, the active skipper’s immediate superior is former captain Carl Hooper. Here is a look at all 13 West Indian batters, including Brathwaite, who have scaled the 5,000-run mark in Tests.
