Ireland Women won the first fixture of the ODI series by five wickets against Netherlands Women at VRA Cricket Ground, Amstelveen on Monday (22 August).

Netherlands batters blow away by the skilful Irish bowling unit

Opting to bowl first, Irish pacers created havoc with their proficient line lengths. The Dutch skipper Babette de Leede (3) was the first one to be dismissed by Georgina Dempsey.

Then, the rest of the work was taken care of by Arlene Kelly and Rachel Delaney, to crush the middle-order of the hosts. The top knock of 38* off 65 from Frederique Overdijk could help the Netherlands team to finish their innings on 84/10. Kelly and Delaney scalped three wickets apiece for the visitors.

Gaby Lewis and Orla Pendergast lead the way for Ireland

In response, Ireland got off to a good start with the clinical stroke play by Gaby Lewis. Lewis (25) and Leah Paul (9) were dismissed in the first 10 overs but had already laid a stable platform with a run-rate of around 5.
