Bess Heath, bowlers help Superchargers to open their account with a thrilling victory


Match 5 of The Hundred Women's competition witnessed Northern Superchargers emerging victorious by five runs against London Spirit on Sunday (14 August) at Headingley. 


Bess Heath guides Superchargers to a competitive total

Invited to bat first, Superchargers lost the in-form Jemimah Rodrigues (2) early. Soon Alyssa Healy departed for a well-made 22 off 17 deliveries. 

Then, Bess Heath displayed her talent to churn out runs at a brisk rate and gradually upped the ante. She added 70 runs with Laura Wolvaardt, before being dismissed for 57 off 34.

The skipper Hollie Armitage scored 16 off 12, while Wolvaardt remained unbeaten on 24 for Superchargers to finish on 127 in their designated quota of 100 balls. 

Amelia Kerr was the pick of the bowlers for Spirit with two scalps. 


Clinical effort of bowlers help Superchargers to claim first victory

Spirit started on a bright note with the presence of Beth Mooney and Grace Scrivens. The duo added 48 runs for the first wicket, before Scrivens made her way back to the hut for a run-a-ball 18. 

Soon, Healy ran out her Australian team-mate Mooney (30) to provide a major breakthrough for the Superchargers.

Coming at number three, Kerr (16) could not take the game deep enough. However, it was a superb effort from Sophie Luff, who scored an unbeaten 39 off 30 to keep the team in the hunt for chasing down the score. 

However, the tail-enders lost wickets in crunch moments, resulting in Superchargers winning the game by five runs. Alice Davidson Richards took two wickets for Superchargers.
