CWG 2022: Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly congratulate India women for silver medal

The Indian women’s cricket team lost the gold medal match to Australia at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Despite captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s rebellious 65-run knock in the run-chase, the ‘Women in Blue’ fell nine runs short to Australia’s 161-8 in the final.

The heart-breaking defeat aside, several members within the Indian cricketing fraternity hailed team’s spirited efforts against the world champions.

Former cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman were among those to lavish praise on the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side for earning the silver medal at the games. Even Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and commended the efforts of the women’s team.

Moreover, active cricketer Dinesh Karthik, who was playing a T20I against West Indies at the time, admitted on Twitter that the entire men’s team were glued to the screen to watch the women’s final against Australia.
