Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) faced off against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in an IPL 2025 match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday, April 13. But instead of their usual red jersey, RCB surprised everyone by wearing green.
What’s the Reason Behind RCB Wearing Green?
RCB wore the green jersey as part of their ‘Go Green’ campaign. This is an initiative they started back in 2011 to spread awareness about protecting the environment. Every year, RCB plays one match wearing a green jersey instead of their regular red one.
This special green jersey is made completely from recycled materials, showing the team’s commitment to eco-friendly practices. It’s more than just a change in colour - it’s a way to remind fans to care about nature and support a cleaner, greener planet.
RCB also aims to become a carbon-neutral team, which means they want to balance out the carbon they release by doing good things for the environment. In fact, they eventually want to go even further and become carbon-positive, meaning they’ll give back more to the planet than they take.
RCB Management Take On The Initiative
Earlier, RCB’s Chief Operating Officer, Rajesh Menon, shared that this initiative isn’t just about changing jerseys. He said,
“For us, it is about being bold, both on and off the pitch. Our green jerseys are more than just a symbol; they are a call to action. "
As proud representatives of the Garden City, sustainability is a natural priority for us. Through this initiative, we aim to leverage the cultural and social power of RCB to drive awareness and inspire fans to take small steps towards conservation,” he added.
While the green jersey is a beautiful idea, it hasn’t always brought good luck on the field. So far, RCB has worn green in 14 IPL matches, out of which they’ve lost 9, won 4, and 1 match had no result.
