In a significant development, veteran Australian seamer Mitchell Starc is all set to miss Kolkata Knight Riders' eighth group-stage match against Punjab Kings in the IPL 2024. 

At toss, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer confirmed that Starc wouldn't participate in the high-octane clash, with the management replacing him with experienced Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera. 


Why is Mitchell Starc not playing?

After Punjab Kings opted to bowl, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer disclosed that Starc would miss the encounter due to a finger injury. He has been replaced by Chameera, who will be playing his first match for the Knight Riders. 

In 12 matches for Lucknow Super Giants, Chameera has scalped nine wickets at an ordinary economy of 8.73. However, with Starc out, he is expected to open the bowling for KKR in this match. 

Meanwhile, the Aussie speedster has had a poor IPL 2024 campaign, scalping only six wickets in seven matches. More importantly, he has gone for a plenty, conceding 287 runs at an abysmal economy rate of 11.48. 

Notably, Starc emerged as the costliest pick in the IPL history after being purchased by KKR for a whopping price of INR 24.75 Crores.
