Agha Salman's reaction to Rizwan's DRS blunder [Source: @kuchbhi12341416/X]
Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan burnt a valuable DRS for his team, as he failed miserably to get the review spot on while attempting to get rid of Kane Williamson. The keeper-batter became desperate to get Williamson out; however, he couldn't succeed in his mission as the umpire upheld the on-field call.
The incident occurred during the 16th over of New Zealand's innings when Pakistan desperately needed someone to break the second wicket partnership between Williamson and Conway. Rizwan brought Agha Salman to draw the second blood for his team and the right-arm off-spinner managed to strike Williamson's pad with a well-disguised delivery.
From over the wicket, Salman bowled a slightly short delivery as Williamson went on to play a pull shot. However, the Kiwi batter got comprehensively beaten, as the ball struck him on his front pad.
As the on-field umpire decided in the batter's favour, Pakistan captain Rizwan went upstairs to challenge the decision. However, the TV umpire was forced to stay with the original call, as the HawkEye predicted that the ball would've missed the leg stump. Rizwan generally gets his reviews spot on, but this time, the call was way below his standards.
Tri-Series Final In Balance As Mitchell Joins Conway
Williamson couldn't capitalise on his start, as he eventually became Salman's victim for 34 runs. After his dismissal, Daryl Mitchell joined Devon Conway in the middle to steady the ship for the tourists. As of writing, New Zealand were 85 for two, with Conway and Mitchell batting on 33* and 4*, respectively.
