KL Rahul has been India's best batter in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy so far and displayed great technique in all games. So, the onus was on him to take India to safer shores in Gabba Test and the stylish opener tried his best with a fluent knock of 84 which unfortunately for India was cut short by a superb catch from Steve Smith.
The former Australian skipper dropped KL Rahul on the very first ball of day 4 at slips, but now has redeemed himself with a sharp one-handed catch and his reaction showed what it meant to him. Smith roared with great passion after taking the catch as his teammates hugged him with India six down for 141.
Steve Smith's Catch Ends Rahul's Quality Knock
It was a touch shortish delivery from Nathan Lyon, third ball of the 43rd over. The ball turned into KL Rahul a bit as he rocked back and tried to punch it away. The ball though caught the outside edge of his blade and went right of Steve Smith at first slip who pulled off a catch for ages, leaving everyone at the ground absolutely stunned.
The wicket of KL Rahul is a big blow for India as they are in a danger of getting a follow-on from the Aussies. India started the day with KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma at the crease, the Indian skipper could not stand tall against quality bowling but Jadeja dispalyed great temperament and fought with Rahul.
However, when things were coming back on track for India, Rahul departed and India once again need to dig deep and bring themselves out of the hole in this third Test of BGT 2024-25.
