The Joburg Super Kings and the Durban Super Giants engaged in an intense battle in the eighth match of the SA20 2025. The match is being played at the Kingsmead in Durban.
The Super Kings won the toss in the game and opted to bat first. Even though they did not get a good start, the team made a unified effort to reach a competitive total. They reached 169 at the end of their 20 overs, and given the nature of the pitch, it looked like a good total.
In the chase, the Durban's Super Giants made a blazing start as the openers snapped up 20 runs in the first two overs. However, after this, the Super Kings made a comeback in the game with some quick wickets.
The Super Giants were struggling at 51/4 when Heinrich Klaasen walked out into the middle and joined hands with Quinton de Kock. The duo stitched together a partnership of 48 runs, and it looked like the Super Giants would cruise through to victory.
Matheesha Pathirana Changes The Momentum Of The Game With Klaasen's Wicket
At this stage, du Plessis turned to Matheesha Pathirana for a wicket, and the young Sri Lankan prodigy delivered it to the team. On the last delivery of the 12th over, Pathirana bowled a full delivery at the leg stump line. Klaasen tried to flick it but got only a faint edge to be taken by Bairstow behind the stumps.
There was an appeal for the caught behind, but the umpire did not respond. After a discussion with his teammates, Faf du Plessis took the review. The replays showed a faint edge, marking the end of the innings for Klaasen. The wicket changed the momentum of the game at the stage, and the onus was then placed on Quinton de Kock to guide the Super Giants to victory.
