The 32,000-seater Wankhede Stadium witnessed a good turnout for South Africa vs England World Cup 2023 match on October 21. During the South African innings, a section of the crowd took a nostalgic dive through time to revive a legendary cricketing carol, one which used to echo throughout all corners of the stadium up until a decade ago.

Numerous attendees at the venue yelled ‘Sachin Sachin…’ in unison to recreate a moment from stadium’s yesteryears gallery.

While it was Sachin Tendulkar’s name that resonated in the stands, it was South Africa’s middle-order star Heinrich Klaasen that enthralled fans with his blazing hits all over the stadium. The cricketer smoked four sixes and 12 boundaries on his way to a 67-ball 109.

Klaasen’s thunderous effort, coupled with Marco Jansen’s quickfire 75* boosted South Africa to a colossal 399-7 upfront.

Defending champions England faltered in their run-chase and even slumped their way to 100-8 at one stage. Gus Atkinson and Mark Wood provided some entertainment for the crowd with some lusty hits but their 70-run ninth-wicket stand merely reduced South Africa’s win margin to 229 runs.
