The fourth match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 saw Royal Challengers Bangalore Women (RCBW) lock horns with Delhi Capitals Women (DCW) at the Reliance Stadium in Vadodara on February 17. Electing to bowl first after winning the toss, RCB-W delivered a clinical performance with the ball with Mandhana's intelligent captaincy.

After restricting DCW to 141, Smriti Mandhana and Co. started off strong with the skipper herself shining in the golden and red armour. Smriti Mandhana led from the front with a scintillating and explosive half-century. Her knock, studded with eight fours and two sixes at the time of writing, dismantled Delhi’s bowling attack and set the foundation for RCBW’s chase.

Smriti Mandhana Punishes DC Bowlers In WPL

Mandhana’s fifty, which came from just 27 balls was a blend of elegance and power. She dominated from the outset, targeting DC-W’s key bowlers, including Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen. Her fearless approach saw her lofting drives over cover, flicking boundaries through mid-wicket, and dispatching length balls over deep mid-wicket for sixes.

Partnering with Danielle Wyatt-Hodge, she stitched a 107-run opening stand in just 11 overs, effectively sealing the game early. Mandhana’s ability to rotate strikes and capitalise on loose deliveries kept the scoreboard racing, leaving DCW’s bowlers with no answers.

DC Women's Struggles With The Bat

Delhi Capitals Women, opting to bat first, crumbled under pressure, managing 141 in 19.3 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues (34 off 22) and Annabel Sutherland (19 off 13) provided brief resistance, but RCBW’s bowlers dominated. Renuka Thakur struck early, removing Shafali Verma for a golden duck, while Georgia Wareham and Ekta Bisht dismantled the middle order.

Mandhana’s fiery fifty once again underscored her status as one of the most dynamic openers in women’s cricket. At the time of writing, RCBW were nearing the chase and might as well pocket the win with Ellyse Perry and the skipper on strike.
