A disciplined bowling effort earlier, followed by a dominating batting performance, helped Durban's Super Giants beat MI Cape Town comprehensively by five wickets in Match 5 of the SA20.

Potgieter’s late fireworks helped Cape Town post 152

After electing to bowl first, Durban's Super Giants got off to a great start as Kyle Mayers sent back star-youngster Dewald Brevis for a 2-ball duck with a magnificent inswinging yorker.

The home side lost Rickelton and only managed a 44 for losing two wickets at the end of the powerplay.

Grant Roelofsen was the only one trying to score briskly at one end but was left stranded as Cape Town soon lost both Rassie van der Dussen and Sam Curran. However, skipper Quinton de Kock handed the ball to Prenelan Subrayen after the powerplay, and the off-spinner took two quick wickets in his first over, reducing Cape Town to 45 for 4.

George Linde, at six, joined Roelofsen and started to rebuild the innings. Linde had a very slow start as the first aim was to stay with Roelofsen but soon launched four massive sixes against Subrayen and Maharaj.

MICT got themselves back in the game to some extent, only to lose Roelofsen and Linde in two back-to-back deliveries.

In the end, Delano Potgieter played a brilliant cameo of 25 off 11 and helped his side breach the 150-run mark with 41 off the last three overs.

Olly Stone's four-for goes in vain

Chasing the target of 153, Durban's Super Giants got off to a flying start as Quinton de Kock and Kyle Mayers dominated every bowlers in the powerplay. The likes of Jofra Archer and Rashid Khan went for runs, and the Super Giants were 60 for one at the end of the powerplay.

Despite losing de Kock's wicket in the powerplay, the visitors kept the scoring rate high to remain ahead in the chase. Linde removed Mayers, but that marked the arrival of Heinrich Klaasen, who started to deal with only boundaries as the Super Giants looked for a potential bonus point.

Just when the chase was all but over, Olly Stone got three wickets and restricted Super Giants from getting the bonus point. However, Keemo Paul made sure they did not waste much time and struck three huge sixes to finish the chase with 21 balls to spare. Olly Stone picked up four wickets and was the pick of the bowlers for the home side.
