South Africa got the better of the West Indies as the former thumped latter by 44 runs in the second match of the Women's T20I Tri-series 2023.
Marizanne Kapp shines with the bat
Opting to bat first, South Africa had a cautious start, however, lost their first wicket in the form of Anneke Bosch in the fourth over of their innings.
Laura Wolvaardt struggled throughout in her 30-ball 25 leaving South Africa stranded in a tough spot. However, the Proteas fought back their way into the game through Marizanne Kapp's half-century.
She was well-complemented by Sune Luus, who partnered with Kapp to stitch a 63-run stand. As both the batters fell in the 18th over, the South African innings did not get the required finish and ended at a score of 141.
Klaas trumps West Indies' batters
Masabata Klaas claimed a four-wicket haul as her medium-pace proved to be too difficult to handle for the West Indies.
Although the Hayley Matthews-led side did get a good enough start, the run-chase went down the drain as soon as the first pin got knocked.
Eventually, all the Windies could manage was a total of 97 as they suffered a 44-run defeat.
Brief scores:
South Africa Women: 141/5 (20)
Marizanne Kapp 52 (43), Sune Luus 30 (26);
Shamilia Connell 2-17 (3), Shabika Gajnabi 1-23 (3)
West Indies Women - 97/8 (20)
Hayley Matthews 23 (35), Shamilia Connell 15 (11);
