The first Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh concluded on a bitter sweet note. Despite a 550 plus score in the first innings, Shan Masood and Co failed to register a success in the Multan Test; thereby creating history by becoming the first team to lose a Test match by an innings even after scoring 500 plus runs in the first inning.

In the history of Test cricket, teams like Pakistan, Australia, and others have faced similar fates, but none had previously lost so decisively after such a high-scoring first innings.

Defeats after scoring 500+ in first innings in Tests:

5* – Pakistan

3 – Australia

2 – Bangladesh, England, New Zealand

Pakistan Face Another Loss As England Go One Up

Pakistan had a dream start as their innings tallied up to 556 runs. Abdullah Shafique scored 102 runs, Shan Masood amassed 151 runs, and Agha Salman netted 104 runs. Their collaborative effort for the second wicket with 253 runs put pressure on England.

But England responded decisively, declaring on at 823 for 7. Joe Root dazzled with a career-best 262, supported by Harry Brook, who smashed an impressive 317—becoming the sixth Englishman to achieve a Test triple century. Zak Crawley made 78, and Ben Duckett 84, as England piled on the pressure.

However, in Pakistan's second innings, Agha Salman and Aamir Jamal's seven-wicket stand yielded 109 runs before Jamal's departure. But their efforts were short-lived, as Jack Leach's entry into the attack led to a quick disintegration of the innings, which ended at 220 runs. England's innings-and-47-run victory was a significant moment, showcasing their dominance on the subcontinent and forcing Pakistan to rethink their strategy for the next.

Meanwhile, the second Test begins from October 15 at the Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan.
