Here’s the timeline of how PAK vs ENG panned out in Multan:

PAK vs ENG Highlights: Crawley Misses Century, But ENG Reap 136 In First Session

England’s overnight batter Zak Crawley missed out from making his fifth Test century as he was dismissed by Shaheen Afridi for a swift 78 (85 balls) within the fifth over of the morning. Forming forces at 113-2, both Joe Root and relegated number four Ben Duckett went on to list unbeaten fifty-plus scores at a brisk pace to navigate England to 232-2 by lunch.

Root and Duckett’s counterattacking approach helped England reap 136 runs from the 25-over opening session, thus maintaining their standard ‘BazBall’ run-rate of 5.44.

Batting with a dislocated thumb, Ben Duckett belted a 45-ball half-century, and smeared 84 runs in all from just 75 deliveries before getting trapped in front by Aamer Jamal just after the lunch break. Unbeaten Joe Root, however, marched on with Harry Brook to take England from 249-3 to 351-3 before heading out for Tea. In yet another 25-over session, England extracted 119 runs at a lively pace of 4.76 runs an over.

Root himself shattered numerous batting records in an exhilarating session, where he logged his 35th Test hundred to surpass Brian Lara, Sunil Gavaskar, Younis Khan and Mahela Jayawardene among the format’s leading century-makers. The former captain also became England’s leading run-scorer in Tests, surpassing his ex-teammate Alastair Cook in the process.

Harry Brook brought up his sixth Test century in the final session, reaching the landmark figure in just 118 deliveries. His partnership with fellow centurion Joe Root soared past the 200-run mark in the final hour of play, as the two cricketers deprived Pakistan bowlers of another wicket for more than 50 overs.

By stumps, Brook reached an unbeaten 141* from just 173 balls with 12 boundaries and a six. Joe Root, on the other hand, is approaching a stellar double-hundred with 176*. The two blistering batters will resume the English innings on Day 4 at 492-3, as the tourists now find themselves only 64 away from Pakistan’s 556.
