Pakistan retained superiority over England by the end of the second day of action at the Multan Cricket Stadium, largely owing to a swift century from Agha Salman.

Here’s the timeline of how PAK vs ENG panned out in Multan:

PAK vs ENG Highlights: Shakeel’s Steadfast Effort Sees PAK Off Opening Session

Overnight batters Saud Shakeel and Naseem Shah extended Pakistan’s total to 388 by sharing 64 runs together for the fifth wicket. Shah, having arrived to the crease within the final few moments of Day 1 as a night watchman, clobbered three sixes and a boundary in his handy 33-run knock before becoming the first of Brydon Carse’s two Pakistani victims of the day. Mohammad Rizwan was deceived by Jack Leach for a 12-ball duck as the hosts slipped to 393-6 at the stroke of Lunch break.

Unbeaten Shakeel notched up his seventh Test half-century and navigated his team to 397-6 alongside Agha Salman (0*) before heading out for lunch. To sum up the opening session of Day 2, Pakistan batters extracted 69 runs from 26 overs at an expense of two wickets.

Pakistan batters swiftly picked up the pace in the second innings, hauling 118 runs from 26 overs at the loss of two additional wickets, thus maintaining a healthy session run-rate of nearly 4.50 runs an over. Saud Shakeel missed out a well-deserved century as his innings was curtailed by Shoaib Bashir for 82 at 450-7. Aamer Jamal also made his way back to the pavilion as he was trapped in front by Brydon Carse for just seven.

Agha Salman, now well set at the crease, added 85 runs to the Pakistani total while batting alongside number 10 Shaheen Afridi. Salman crafted 104 unbeaten runs from 119 balls to bring up his third Test century to take Pakistan to a colossal 556-run first innings total. Shaheen also chipped in with a handy 26 before Jack Leach (3-160) and Joe Root (1-25) mopped up the Pakistani tail.

PAK vs ENG Highlights: Zak Crawley’s Half-Century Sparks Late ENG Fightback

Up against a huge Pakistani total, England lost captain Ollie Pope for a two-ball duck to ace quick Naseem Shah. Thereafter, opener Zak Crawley and number three Joe Root upheld England’s ‘BazBall’ aura with an unbroken 92-run partnership from just 112 deliveries.

Crawley finished the day at a run-a-ball 64* while Root walked back with 32* to his name. The two cricketers will now resume the English innings at 96-1 (20 overs) as the visitors still find themselves another 460 runs away from Pakistan.
