IND vs SA 2022: Shreyas Iyer powers India to a comfortable win

Shreyas Iyer smacked a belligerent ton to power India in a remarkable run-chase against South Africa. The win enabled the ‘Men in Blue’ to level the three-match series, with a winner-takes-all fixture set to be played in Delhi a couple of days later.

Iyer received much assistance from Ishan Kishan, with the latter of the two contributing with 93 in the Indian innings. The two cricketers also formed a 161-run third wicket stand, with Sanju Samson gunning down the remainder of South Africa’s total with ease.

Shreyas Iyer’s innings marked only the second ton of his ODI career, in addition to the 12 half-centuries he has to his name. The right-hander finished with an unbeaten 113, and whacked 15 of the 111 deliveries he faced for boundaries.

The 2022 T20 World Cup bound cricketer also brought up the winning runs, and staged a 73-run stand with in-form Sanju Samson. The wicketkeeper himself played an anchoring role after Kishan’s dismissal by scoring 30* runs.

Earlier, the South Africans piled up 278-7 on the back of sparkling 70s by Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram.

Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers from the Indian camp, as the speedster struck thrice in his 10-over economical spell. Meanwhile, spin trio Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed and Kuldeep Yadav all finished with a wicket each.
