Superstar Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma is confident that the elusive ICC trophy is not far from reach for the Women in Blue after Harmanpreet Kaur's Women in Blue claimed their 7th Asia Cup title on Saturday (October 15).

India, riding on their imperious bowling attack-led by Renuka Singh, made short work of Sri Lanka in the Women's Asia Cup 2022 final as they restricted the island nation to 65/9, which was eclipsed easily by Smriti Mandhana, who smashed an unbeaten 21-ball 55.

Deepti, who was adjudged the 'Player of the Series' for claiming 13 wickets and 94 runs, said that a WC title is not far away for her rampant team.

Speaking to the media, Deepti Sharma said:

"If we work like this as a bowling and batting unit, the World Cup is also not very far. This will be the mindset whenever we next play a final. Definitely, this Asia Cup triumph will help a lot, the winning moment gives you confidence for the upcoming series,"

"Our focus was always to do well, rather than just winning and it was about taking one game at a time".

India Women have a consistent force in ICC events in last 5 years

The Indian Women team have come on the cusp of winning the World Cup title on more than one occasion in the past 5 years, but have time and again faltered at the final hurdle.

They finished as the semi-finalists and as runners-up in the last two T20 World Cup editions in 2018 and 2020 respectively, in addition to winning the prestigious Silver medal at CWG 2022.

The next T20 WC will take place in South Africa in February 2023, and Deepti and co will look to finally break the hoodoo in the rainbow nation.
