The day 5 of the first Test of Ashes 2023 was set for a classic finish with Australia needing 174 to win and England requiring 7 wickets to pull off another famous win. However, the rain is currently playing spoilsport and no play has been possible in the first session as early Lunch will be taken at 5 PM IST. So, the latest the match can start on day 5 is 5.40 PM IST provided rain stops soon and ground is match-ready.

The majority of day 3 was also washed out due to rain, but the Test match has moved at a rapid rate, and the result looks almost certain at the end of day 4. However, now that one session is gone, the probability of a draw has increased, but we can still expect both teams to go for a win.

Talking about this game, England managed to take a slim lead of 7 runs after the first innings of both sides, but the Aussies did brilliantly in the second innings to bowl out England for 273. Australia came into the final session of day 4 with all 10 wickets in hand and 281 to win, but Broad bowled a brilliant spell, and Australia ended up losing three wickets till stumps on day 4. It is all about which team handles the pressure better on the final day, and let’s hope that the rain fades away soon and cricket takes centrestage.
