India is all set to host the ICC Men's 50-Overs World Cup from October 5th, and the country is leaving no stone unturned in its preparations for the marquee event.

The first order of business is to finalise the venues for the matches. However, in an unexpected turn of events , the Mohali stadium has been left out of the running.

With a rich history of hosting World Cup matches, Mohali is perhaps best known as the venue for the ICC men's 2011 World Cup final between India and Pakistan.

Since then, the stadium in Punjab has continued to be one of the most demanding venues for World Cup matches, both in the 50-over and 20-over formats.

Dilsher Khanna, the secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), has stated that the BCCI has not reached out to them regarding hosting any matches of the upcoming World Cup.

Here's what Dilsher Khanna said:

“Nothing has been communicated to us officially from the BCCI, so I won’t be able to comment on the same.”

The showpiece tournament will reportedly be played across 12 cities in India, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Rajkot, and Mumbai, comprising 48 matches.

While it has been rumoured that the final of the marquee event will take place at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet confirmed the venues.

There have been reports that the Punjab Cricket Association are fast-tracking the construction of its new Mullanpur Stadium in Mohali to have it prepared for hosting matches in the ICC World Cup.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to confirm the venues for the World Cup, leaving fans in Pune and Mohali in the dark about their chances of hosting matches.
