India gain a slight edge in first innings
Batting first, the Aussie duo Shane Watson (57) and Simon Katich (43) provided a good start to the team. Then, captain Ricky Ponting (77) was imperious to further steer the visitors against talented bowling unit.

After Vijay (139) departed, Tendulkar continued his momentum to finish on 214 off 363 balls, comprising 22 fours and two sixes. In the end, India managed to score 495, and secured a 17-run lead.
