England and New Zealand are set to lock horns against one another in the third ODI of the four-match ODI series. The caravan moves to the city of London which will host the final two contests of the ongoing bilateral clash. The 3rd ODI is going to be staged at the soul of Surrey, the Kennington Oval and the match is slated to begin at 5:00 PM IST, 12:30 PM Local Time.

New Zealand won three back to back matches against England - winning the final two T20I and then the first ODI on the back of Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell's centuries. The second ODI saw the bounce back from the hosts as the lower batting order came to the rescue followed by a superb team bowling effort.

The third ODI is not just an important one with respect to the bilateral series but also serves as a preparation for the upcoming 2023 World Cup, starting next month. Both teams will look to form a formidable XI and let us have a look who could be the best Captain and Vice-captain options for this encounter.

ENG vs NZ, 3rd ODI- Venue Analysis

The surface at Kennington Oval is a balanced one. The batters enjoy the ball coming on to the bat while the pacers get little bit of movement with the new ball. With the lights coming in the evening, it gets even better to operate with the new cherry then. If there was adequate sunshine in the past, the conditions may get friendly for the spinners too.

ENG vs NZ, 3rd ODI- Toss Factor

Toss is going to play a crucial role in this game. Chasing has been easy in the venue if looked at the last few ODI matches played on this ground. So, it could be a case that the toss winning captain may opt to field first.

Scenario: If ENG wins the toss.

England, knowing the conditions better will look to soothe them accordingly. But it could be a fact Jos Buttler may bowl first on this venue. In that case, the likes of Sam Curran, Buttler, and Daryl Mitchell are some important picks.

Scenario: If NZ wins the toss

As cited above, the toss winning captain may decide to bowl first, if gone by the past records. So, if New Zealand chases, one can include Devon Conway, Trent Boult or Liam Livingstone as probable options for captain or vice-captain.

ENG vs NZ, 3rd ODI: Top Captain and Vice-captain choices

If England bats first

Liam Livingstone (ENG)

The all-rounder has been in terrific form during the ODI series. He has been smacking the ball for fun late down the order. In the last game he scored an unbridled 95 and fell shy a century by mere margin. He also scored a fifty in the 1st ODI and helped England go past the 290 runs mark.  Livingstone can also come in handy with some unorthodox finger spin mixed with leg breaks.

Daryl Mitchell (NZ)

The New Zealand all-rounder spent a considerable amount of time in the UK since the start of the English summer. He had his stints with Lancashire Lightning in the T20 Blast and for the London Spirit in the Men's Hundred.  Mitchell is used to the conditions and that can be seen in his numbers as well. The right-handed batter notched up a ton and a fifty in the first and second ODI respectively. And the best part of it is that, both came while the Kiwis were batting second.

If NZ bats first

 Jos Buttler (ENG)

The English batter has been crucial with the bat in the last couple of games for the Three Lions. He played some impressive knocks for the Manchester Originals as well in the Men's Hundred. He has notched up 102 runs in 2 innings so far with a half-century in the first ODI that came in a tricky period.

Trent Boult (NZ)

Although a freelancer now, Boult never shies away from displaying his potential with the new ball in hand. The last game against England was an epitome of that.  The left-arm quick broke through the top and middle-order with the new ball  in the second ODI. He manufactured three wickets within the first powerplay and will look to replicate his heroics in the third as well.

ENG vs NZ, 3rd ODI: Big Risk, Big Return Choice

Sam Curran

The all-rounder has rubbed shoulders in the same venue for the past couple of months. He piled up a vital 42 runs knock off 35 balls in the second ODI and can convert his scores provided  he gets more time to bat. The left-arm pacer can also be sensational with the new ball, in the middle overs and also in the slog. He is an all-round package and therefore can come handy with respect to fantasy points.
