In a page from the past, Pakistani actress Nazish Jahangir found herself in the middle of a social media storm after the news of a possible marriage to cricket sensation Babar Azam spread like wildfire. The rumors had originated from a light-hearted exchange in an Instagram Q&A session, where a fan had jokingly asked if she would accept a proposal from Babar Azam.
Nazish's light-hearted but assertive reply, "Mazraat hi karungi" (I would apologize), made it obvious that she was not interested in such a situation. Although in jest, the backlash came swiftly and in strong measure. Fans of Babar Azam, who had likely hoped for a different outcome, launched an aggressive campaign of cyberbullying against the actress.
The online abuse was so overwhelming that Nazish was forced to make her Instagram account private, a move that highlighted the toxic nature of online interactions.
