Yasir Shah among others included in PSL replacement draft

The Pakistan Super League on Saturday, 8 January are scheduled to host a supplementary and replacement draft for the 2022 season of the league. An event that is going to be held virtually will allow franchises to pick a maximum of two supplementary players as well as partially replace those who are unavailable due to their international commitments.

The Pakistan Cricket Board have identified a total of 14 players who need to be partially replaced and the list includes big guns like Chris Jordan, James Vince, Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone among others.

The teams are spoilt for choices in the new draft as well, as recognised international stars like Ben Dunk, Chris Green and Tymal Mills are up for grabs.

Teams do not have a lot of time to figure out combinations with the first leg of the tournament to begin on 27 January in Karachi.

The selection is not free of controversy though. Pakistan cricket Yasir Shah, who has had a FIR lodged against his name on the allegations of aiding the rape of a minor has been included in the list of local cricketers. Shah was earlier excluded from the tour of Bangladesh before the allegations came to fore under the ambit of a finger injury. At the time of writing, the case remains unresolved.

IPL 2022 | RP-Sajiv Goenka's Lucknow-based franchise rope in My11Circle as team sponsor

One of the two upcoming IPL franchises, the RP- Sanjiv Goenka’s owned Lucknow-based side has signed up the fantasy sports firm My11Circle as their team sponsor from their start in the tournament. The two parties have signed a three-year contract under which there will be the logo of My11Circle on kits of Lucknow-based players and support staff. "We are delighted to have My11Circle as our Principal Team Sponsor. We thank them for the faith they have shown in our new franchise and are confident that this will be a winning partnership,” CEO, RPSG Sports, Raghu Iyer, said. Earlier this week, the side also announced the list of support staff and appointed former Zimbabwean skipper Andy Flower as their head coach in the company of India’s Vijay Dahiya as an assistant coach and two-time IPL winning captain Gautam Gambhir as their mentor. The Lucknow-based franchise was bought by the RP-Sanjiv Goenka group for a whopping Rs 7090 crore last year.

Tourists England led the fightback on Day 4 of the SCG Test on Saturday, 8 January. Early into the lunch session, a relentless attack from Mark Wood and Jack Leach led to four wickets inside 29 overs of Australia’s second innings, setting the Test match up for an exciting finish. After an exciting fight back by Jonny Bairstow on Day 3, England were bundled out below 300 in the morning session of Day 4. Just when things seemed to slip off once again after conceding a lead of over 120 runs, Mark Wood’s barrage of short balls and ability to gain extra bounce from the surface put Australia under pressure. While Wood got rid of David Warner and Marnus Labuschange, Jack Leach from the other side dismissed Marcus Harris and Steve Smith. Both deliveries from Leach were beauties in their own right, with the Harris one drifting through the air to take the outside edge with a traditional offspinner and the Smith one, which was thrown flat and straight at the stumps, perplexing the former captain. At the time of writing Australia were batting at 91/4 with Cameron Green and Usman Khawaja in the crease.

Big Bash League hosts inaugural First Nations Rounds to pay tribute to traditional custodians

The Big Bash League season 11 is set to honour the traditional custodians with their first-ever ‘First Nation Round’ starting 8 January, Saturday. The 11-game long round will be hosted between 8-14 January with a campaign aimed at connecting better to the roots of the country. Cricket Australia have taken a few steps at becoming more inclusive to the indigenous community and over the last year have released special jerseys to honour the aboriginal classes. For the current edition of the BBL, franchises are expected to wear specially designed jerseys and strike community partnerships to better the lives of the less privileged. Brisbane Heat are among the teams that have already announced projects that will come out of the nations round. The Brisbane based franchise will be partnering with ‘Deadly Choices’ to promote health check-ups in the indigenous community and will be auctioning off their jerseys to raise money for Queensland Cricket Foundation.

The Ashes | 4th Test, Day 4: Australia wrap up England for 294

The fourth day morning of the Ashes Test did not bear similar resistance for England in the Sydney Cricket Ground. Starting from 258/7 overnight, the tourists were wrapped up for 294 in the first innings within the first hour of play with Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon cleaning up the lower order. England added just 36 runs to their total in the morning and were victims of some ordinary shot selection after their tremendous comeback on Day 3 of the fourth Test match. Jonny Bairstow top scored for the visitors scoring 113 runs off 158 balls. The prime architect of England's comeback edged one back to the keeper while trying to run one down to third man. Short by 122 runs in the first innings, England took the ball and were able to quickly remove David Warner in the sixth over of the Australian 2nd innings. At the time of writing, Australia were 52/1 in 18 overs.
