Mumbai is gearing up for the high-profile TATA Women’s Premier League (WPL) Player Auction scheduled for December 9.

This year’s auction list includes a total of 165 cricketers, amongst whom 104 are Indian talents and 61 hail from overseas, including 15 from associate nations.

The auction will see a mix of seasoned and emerging players, with 56 capped and 109 uncapped cricketers. Notably, the auction includes a maximum of 30 spots across the five WPL teams, with 9 openings specifically for overseas players.

The highest reserve price this year is INR 50 Lakhs, a bracket chosen by two international stars - Deandra Dottin and Kim Garth. Following closely is the INR 40 Lakh base price category, featuring four foreign players: Australian allrounders Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Wareham, South African fast bowler Shabnim Ismal, and English wicketkeeper Amy Jones. Notably, Sutherland and Garth are no strangers to the WPL, having played in the inaugural edition.

Several renowned cricketers who missed the 2023 WPL are back in the fray. Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu, India's Veda Krishnamurthy, English opener Danni Wyatt, Australian Phoebe Litchfield, and New Zealand's Lea Tahuhu have all been listed at a base price of INR 30 Lakh. England's Tammy Beaumont is also a notable mention in the wicketkeeper-batter category.

The auction list also includes players from associate nations like Thailand's Natthakan Chantham, Scotland's Kathryn Bryce, and Tara Norris from the USA, who made a remarkable debut in the last edition.

With limited slots available, the franchises face tough decisions. Giants lead with the maximum number of slots (10) and the highest purse of INR 5.95 Crore. Warriorz, on the other hand, have INR 4 Crore for just five spots, and Royal Challengers Bangalore have INR 3.35 Crore to fill seven vacancies.
