WI vs BAN | Kemar Roach added to West Indies squad for first Test

Cricket West Indies (CWI) have added fast bowler Kemar Roach to their Windies squad for the first Test against Bangladesh. Roach, who was injured, passed a fitness test and is now included as the 13th player ahead of the match at the Sir Vivan Richards Stadium today.

The bowler suffered a hamstring injury while playing for Surrey in the English County Championship last month. West Indies head coach Phil Simmons has welcomed this inclusion, saying it adds more depth to the side.

"It's brilliant that he's (Roach) fit for the Test match. He's always an inspiration for the younger players we have here, and he's ready to go.

With 250 wickets around the corner, we're happy with what he brings to the table, not just on the field but in the dressing room as well. I'm glad he's fit and looking forward to seeing him getting out there and doing what he does so well," Simmons said in a report in IndiaToday.

Roach has taken 242 Test scalps in 71 appearances since making his debut in 2009.

The visitors' too made similar changes to their squad ahead of the start of the Antigua Test, bringing in Anamul Haque for Yasir Ali, who was ruled out of the series due to a back injury.

Anamul, who last featured for Bangladesh in 2019, is making a comeback on the back of a record-breaking run in the Dhaka Premier League, scoring 1,042 runs.

BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin said, "We have decided to send Anamul as a back-up batsman considering Yasir has been ruled out from the (Test) series due to injury."
