It has come as a shocker for Indian fans as just ahead of the start of the Test series against England, all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the series. After Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan, Sundar is now the third injury-related rule out from the 19 men strong Indian squad. Although on the third day of the game, Sundar was still seen fielding and hence it became difficult to ascertain what level of injury is he suffering from. News Wire service ANI earlier reported that the 21-year-old spin bowling all-rounder would be ruled out for at least six weeks. Sundar, an important member of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s squad in the upcoming leg of the Indian Premier League in UAE is also a prime contender for Team India’s squad for the T20 World Cup later this year.

Pakistan cricket has suffered because of no international cricket at home: Mushtaq

Former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has lauded the Indian team management for nurturing the young talents and focusing on the U19 and ‘A’ teams. "Pakistan cricket has suffered a lot because of no international cricket at home but India has done the right thing by investing on its under-19 and A team tours. I remember I was working in England for like four summers and once in Australia and every year I saw some Indian team touring those countries," Saqlain said in an interview as quoted by news agency PTI. Sri Lanka fined 20 percent match fees for maintaining slow over-rate in second ODI vs India

Sri Lanka have been fined 20 percent of the match fees during the second ODI against India in Colombo, the ICC said in a statement. Captain Shanaka pleaded guilty and accepted the proposed sanction so there was no requirement of any formal hearing. “Ranjan Madugalle of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Dasun Shanaka’s side was ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration,” the ICC statement said. In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time. In addition, as per Article 16.12.2 of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League Playing Conditions, a side is penalised one point for each over short. Consequently, Sri Lanka will lose one point from their points tally during the Super League. The home side suffered a defeat in the second ODI as India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The visitors were chasing 276 in 50 overs and were reduced to 193/7 in the 36th over when Deepak Chahar chipped in with an unbeaten stand of 84 runs with Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Chahar hit his career-best 69* off 82 deliveries during the course as India went over the line by 3 wickets in the last over. The two sides will now meet each other in the third and final encounter at the same venue on Friday (July 23, 2021). The Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian side is expected to test their bench strength in this game.
