WI v BAN | 2nd Test, Day 2 | Dominating ton from Mayers puts WI in total control in St Lucia

A defiant, unbeaten 126 from Kyle Mayers has helped the West Indies consolidate their position in the 2nd Test against Bangladesh in St Lucia as the hosts finished the 2nd day's play at 340-5 and with an overall lead of 106.

Starting the day at 0-67, West Indies openers Kragg Brathwaite and John Campbell added 33 more to the tally to bring up a 100-run stand.

But, just as it looked that the pair would bat Bangladesh out of the game, the visitors fought back with disdain as they prized out 4 top-order wickets during a 13-over spell.

Pacer Shoriful Islam started the slide that saw the Windies go from 0-100 to 4-132 as he made good use of the uneven bounce that the pitch was offering to remove Campbell (45).

Mehidy Hasan backed it up by knocking over Brathwaite (51) with a drifter before Khaled Ahmed went bang bang by removing Reifer and Bonner in quick succession.

However, Mayers proceeded to take stock of the situation and led West Indies' reply alongside Jermaine Blackwood (40).

The duo weathered through the tough phase initially before settling into a nice rhythm during the second session.

Mayers and Blackwood went on to add 116 runs during the afternoon session, ensuring that the home side did not slide further. Mayers, who scored 27 of the first 29 deliveries he faced, launched a calculated counterattack while Blackwood was a bucket full of patience at the other end.

Bangladesh's best bet was the second new ball but their second-best phase of the day came in the lead-up, immediately after the Tea break when their bowlers tightened the screws from both ends.

Following a spell of 29 dot deliveries in a row, Mehidy finally broke the stand when he trapped Blackwood in front.

However, the Bangladeshi bowlers undid all the good work that they'd done in the lead-up to the second new ball as Mayers took liking to it.

The southpaw brought up his hundred with a disdainful six off Shoriful, and along with Joshua De Silva, ensured that his side did not lose any more wicket in the session.
