Chris Jordan backs Jason Roy to end his lean patch

England seamer Chris Jordan has backed his teammate Jason Roy to bounce back stronger.

There has been a slump in Roy’s form in white-ball cricket. The 32-year-old became the fourth Englishman to score 1500 runs in the T20Is on Thursday.

However, he has struggled to score some good runs this month. July has been an intense month for the right-hander as he has played all the white-ball games for England against India and South Africa.

The 11 limited-overs games saw Roy struggling to hit even a single half-century. He ended up with only 95 runs against India after playing three ODIs and T20Is each. His score in the T20I and ODI series against South Africa reads 51 and 57 runs respectively.

Roy to shine in the final T20I on Sunday

Despite the lean patch, Jordan has shown his trust in Roy to do well in the series-decider on Sunday. England will have a go at the Proteas for the final T20 International at Southampton.

“Jason is definitely the type of character to come through it. We all go through it as cricketers, we all go through little patches, but we in the dressing room back him 250 percent because we know that when he’s on a song he’s a real match winner.

“Don’t be surprised if he comes good on Sunday. T20 cricket is one of those things. Sometimes you can be hitting the ball well (and struggling) or not well and still getting runs.

Jordan happy with his current form in the T20Is

Meanwhile, Jordan also gave his input on his recent form in the T20 Internationals. Following a terrible performance in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup last year, the seamer has redeemed himself.

He has been delivering match-winning performances for the Englishmen by consistently crossing the speedometer over 90 kmph.

“So far so good, it was nice to close out the first game in a win. I haven’t been watching the speed gun too much, but it’s nice to be touching 90mph. I’m trying to bowl a higher percentage of yorkers.

“Because it’s one of those balls that’s hard even if the batter knows it’s coming. I try to focus on my execution and live with the end results,” the 33-year-old signed off.
