Australia opener David Warner was sacked from the SRH captaincy after leading the franchise in six games of IPL 2021. Moreover, he wasn’t really considered in the XI as well. Opening up about it, the left-handed batsman has said that it sent a wrong message to the youngsters in the side. 

“If you are going to drop a captain and then not pick him in the team after what he has done, what message does that send to the young kids in the team? What message does that send to the rest of the group? What hurt me the most is that the other guys are now thinking, ‘oh, this could happen to me’," Warner said while speaking on Backstage with Boria..

The Australian batter further insisted that having conversations could have been a way.

“At the end of the day, whatever happens, cop it on the chin. If you want to have those conversations, just have them. It’s not hard. Don’t shy away from them. I am not going to bite. I am going to sit here and accept that for what it is because you are not picking me in the team,” he further added.

Interestingly, SRH had lifted the IPL title under Warner’s captaincy back in the 2016 edition. Warner had a great turn around after the series of disappointments as he emerged as the Player of the tournament in T20 World Cup 2021. Australia lifted the T20 World Cup for the first time.

India Test skipper Virat Kohli hasn’t hit a century in two years now and the right-handed batsman has faced some criticism for his batting all this while. But Australia opener David Warner has come in Kohli’s support and said that a player of his stature is “allowed to fail” after doing so well for the team. "We have to understand Kohli’s situation too. The guy has been playing under a bubble for a long time. He has just become a father and rarely gets to see his daughter and wife. Kohli is presently with the Indian team in South Africa for the three-match Test series which will be followed by three ODIs. The Test series between the two sides is levelled at 1-1 after India suffered a defeat in the second clash recently. Kohli missed this match due to back spasm and is expected to return for the decider slated to begin on January 11 in Cape Town. Warner on the other hand is featuring in the Ashes at home. Australia have taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series against England and the visitors have been handed a target of 388 runs in the penultimate game in Sydney with one more day left. They were 30/0 when stumps were called on Day 4.
