Washington Sundar tests positive for Covid-19

India's Washington Sundar has tested positive for Covid-19 and won’t travel to South Africa for the ODI series, an office bearer confirmed. He was to travel to Cape Town with other members of the ODI team.

"He tested positive some days back and it has been decided that he will not travel with the squad."

"I have nothing to comment, I will come back to you soon," Sundar told Cricbuzz on Tuesday (January 11).

The BCCI is yet to announce a replacement for Sundar who hasn’t played international cricket for almost 10 months now due to injuries. He last donned the Indian jersey back in March 2021.

Sundar then made a place for himself in the Tamil Nadu squad in the recently-concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy and was subsequently called-up for the ODI fixtures against the Proteas.

The two sides will play the first and second ODI in Paarl on January 19 and 21 respectively and will then travel to Cape Town for the final ODI which will be played on January 23.
