The historic One Day International series between the United States of America and Ireland has been cancelled due to growing number of Covid-19 cases in both parties.
While no official figures have arrived, it is being assumed that USA Cricket will be dealt a significant financial blow after aggressively arranging the tour on very short notice during the holiday surcharge period.
Earlier on Tuesday, 28 December, the 2nd ODI was postponed by a day over fresh cases of Covid in the touring parties. ESPNcricinfo reported that the Irish players’ families, who were allowed to go out during their stay in Florida, have tested positive for the infection. With Irish players being deemed as close contacts, the series had to be cancelled.
Ireland are still on schedule for their West Indies tour, and leave for the Caribbean shores on 31 December, pending clearance from the RT-PCR Tests. The members who have turned positive will stay back in Florida and will complete their isolation in USA.
