Unmukt Chand fails to impress on Big Bash League debut

Former India U19 captain Unmukt Chand made his BBL debut for Melbourne Renegades against Hobart Hurricanes on Tuesday, 18 January. He was expected to do well considering his promise and being one of the most talented young prospects while he was growing in India.

Things did not go very well for Unmukt though as the right-hander’s stay wasn’t a long one at the crease. He was dismissed for 6 runs off 8 deliveries by Sandeep Lamichhane after being caught in the deep by Caleb Jewell. Chand came into the crease after the dismissal of Shaun Marsh who played a good knock of 51 off 38 balls setting Renegades up for a win. However, after coming into crease, Unmukt was fed straight to speedster Riley Meredith, whom he found tough to negotiate.

Chand dealt in singles as he found it tough to get away frustrating Aaron Finch at the other end. Having already played five balls, Unmukt tried to cut loose against Nepal spinner Lamichhane and lofted a ball to deep midwicket. The shot was not timed well, and he got caught yards inside the boundary line.

The wicket ended up halting Renegades' momentum and the team eventually lost by 6 runs.
