KKR happy to retain the core team ahead of IPL 2021: Venky Mysore

Kolkata Knight Riders’ CEO and Managing Director Venky Mysore said that the unit was happy to have retained the core of their team for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Reacting to the developments of the day, Mysore said, “We are very happy to have been able to retain our entire squad. Barring some fine tunings we have retained the same squad that we had last season, obviously led by captain Eoin Morgan, supported by DK” Naming the players like Australian pacer Pat Cummins, New Zealand quick Lockie Ferguson, and other players including the likes of Sunil Narine, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakravarthy he said that it was pleasing to have the same guys turning out to do better this season. “Retaining the nucleus makes our squad a very strong one, very balanced one. It was a very unfortunate last season that we missed out on the run rate and now we will regroup and come stronger this year,” Mysore added. Saying that he was happy with the current squad, the CEO didn’t rule out the fact that they would try and get a few more players to fit the bill in the mini-auction. “We will have some opportunity at the mini-auction to be held a little later and we will try and fine-tune a bit more then, for now, we are really looking forward to IPL 2021,” he said. Rajasthan Royals release Steve Smith, starts new chapter with Sanju Samson as skipper

The Rajasthan Royals have let go Steve Smith who was the skipper of the team in the last edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after a discussion that went down the wire in words of a franchise official. According to an ANI report, the decision to release Smith has been taken today only and that the franchise will appoint a new captain in the IPL 2021. Notably, Smith was handed over the captaincy of the team after Ajinkya Rahane was struggling to lead the side after the comeback from a two-year ban by the BCCI. The Royals had finished last on the points table of the league in IPL 2020 and hence the decision to let go Smith was always on the cards. On the other hand, the franchise which celebrated an early triumph in the inaugural edition of the league is contemplating options of retaining young players such as Kartik Tyagi, Mayank Markane and Mahipal Lomror. Earlier today, Harbhajan Singh was released by the Chennai Super Kings and there many more releases on cards from other teams as well.
