Team India likely to play two-match T20 series against crisis-hit Sri Lanka

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has once again extended its helping hand to its close friend and neighbour country Sri Lanka, which is grappling with its worst-ever economic crisis as ordinary people face regular power cuts, shortage of essential commodities and soaring inflation in the country.

Meanwhile, Team India has given the nod to the Sri Lanka Cricket request to play Sri Lanka in a two-match T20 series before (or after) the Asia Cup to allow the Island nation to earn some valuable foreign currency.

Earlier in August 2021, India visited Sri Lanka, where they played three ODIs and as many T20Is, which led to SLC earning revenue of USD 14.5 million (INR 107 crore).

Earlier this year, Sri Lanka cricket came to India to play three T20Is and two Test matches, where the visitors ended up losing all the five matches against team India.

Both the teams will now face each other in the Asia Cup, which was earlier scheduled to be played in the Island nation. But now, owing to the ongoing political turmoil, the event might be shifted to the United Arab Emirates, and the two T20Is between India and Sri Lanka might also be played in the UAE.

“We are in the process of finalising the venue for the two-match series. But most probably, it will be in UAE,” a BCCI source said.
