T20 World Cup | AUS vs SA: Australia bowlers derail South Africa

Australia couldn’t have asked for a better start to their World Cup campaign after they restricted South Africa to 118/9 in 20 overs in Abu Dhabi. After winning the toss, captain Aaron Finch put the Proteas into bat and the Aussie bowlers capitalised on that decision in the most fascinating way.

Left-hander Mitchell Starc went for a few runs in the first over but Glenn Maxwell and Josh Hazlewood soon pulled things back in their favour. Maxwell removed a dangerous-looking Temba Bavuma for 12 off 7 and Hazlewood got into the act to scalp important wickets of Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen for 7 and 2 respectively.

The South African team then lost Klassen when the team score read 46 but got some resistance from Aiden Markram and David Miller as the right-left duo put 34 runs for the fifth wicket.

But Miller was eventually trapped in front of the stumps by Adam Zampa for 16 to break the shackles. While Markram held the fort from one end, he kept losing partners at the other side and was sent back in the end by Starc for a 36-ball 40 to leave the side tottering at 98/8. Later, Kagiso Rabada chipped in with some runs after he remained unbeaten at 19 off 23.

Starc, Hazlewood and Zampa scalped a couple of wickets apiece while Maxwell and Pat Cummins picked up a wicket each.

Virat Kohli will step down as T20I captain after the conclusion of the World T20 2021. While the right-handed batsman had made the announcement clear, he is still asked as to why he opted to take the decision. Ahead of the Pakistan match, Kohli was once again questioned on the same topic and he sent a loud and clear message that he wasn’t really going to make additions to what he had said earlier. I have already explained myself a lot and I don't think I need to harp on that anymore," Kohli said. "I have explained myself very honestly and openly and if people feel there's more to it that what I have already told, I feel pretty bad for them. That's certainly not the case,” he added. India will be beginning the World T20 2021 campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday (October 24, 2021). The Men in Blue have never lost to Pakistan in a World Cup fixture and in fact lifted their only T20I title back in 2007 after beating their Asian counterparts in the final. The two teams last played against each other in the 50-over World Cup fixture in 2019 at Old Trafford. Pakistan have already announced their 12-man squad for the high-voltage clash.

WBBL 2021: Rain forces all fixtures of the day to be called off

Rain played spoilsport in the Women’s Big Bash league on Saturday in Launceston after all the four matches were washed away. The first encounter between Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes saw 16 overs being bowled before the rain arrived while all the other three matches were called-off without the toss taking place. The Hurricanes lost a couple of early wickets before Mignon du Preez and Nicola Carey chipped in with a partnership of 43 runs for the third wicket before Carey was sent back in the hut for 19 off 18. The Hobart team then lost another wicket after Rich Ghosh was undone by Amanda Wellington for just 4 runs. Later, Du Preez and Naomi Stalenberg steadied the ship for the team and scored a partnership of 32 runs. The stand was finally broken after Sarah Coyle removed Du Preez for a 35-ball 39. The Hobart Hurricanes were 107/5 in 15 overs when the play was halted and was eventually abandoned. Darcie Brown and Wellington scalped a couple of wickets apiece for Adelaide. The second match was scheduled between Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heat, third was slated to be the Sydney derby while the fourth one had to be played between Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades respectively. As far as the points table is concerned, Adelaide Strikers are sitting at the helm with two wins and five points under their belt from three matches.

T20 World Cup | Not against Pak, but Kohli hopes Hardik will bowl at 'some stage' in the tournament

India and Pakistan will be up against each other in the World T20 2021 clash on Sunday (October 24, 2021) in Dubai. Captain Virat Kohli has put his weight behind Hardik Pandya and has said that the right-hander has a lot to offer as a batter as well. Kohli also suggested that Hardik who had undergone a back surgery in 2019 is getting closer to a stage where he can bowl a couple of overs in the tournament. “Hardik (Pandya) is getting to the stage where he can bowl a couple of overs at some point during the tournament,” Virat Kohli told reporters on Saturday. “What he brings at No 6 as a batter is something we can’t create overnight,” said Kohli. “Have backed him always there as a batter. We know the value he brings in, he is a specialist at doing that, can play an impact innings,” he added. When asked about the encounter against Pakistan, the right-handed batsman said that the Babar Azim-led team is a strong one and The Men in Blue would need a strong plan and execution. “Pakistan are a strong team, we need to come up with a strong plan and execute it well,” he said. Both India and Pakistan will begin the World T20 2021 campaign on Sunday.

There is no confirmation on Rahul Dravid becoming India coach: Sourav Ganguly

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has cleared the air on Rahul Dravid’s appointment as the next head coach of the Indian team. Ganguly has said that there is no confirmation that Dravid will take over the reigns from Ravi Shastri as of now. “There is no confirmation (On Dravid becoming coach),” Ganguly said while talking to Aaj Tak. The former left-handed batsman further added that Dravid has asked for sometime to make the decision on whether he wants to take up the job or not. “If he wants to apply, he will apply, the process has to happen. For now, he is the coach of NCA and I believe NCA has a big role to play in Indian cricket. I have spoken to him earlier about this as well and he was not that interested and I feel the situation is still the same. He has asked for some time, let’s see what happens,” Ganguly added. Shastri’s tenure as the head coach of the Indian team will end after the conclusion of World T20 2021. Dravid has had a past experience of coaching the India U19 and ‘A’ teams and has been instrumental in giving some good results. In fact, the U19 side made it to the finals in the 2016 edition of the World Cup under Ishan Kishan’s captaincy while lifted the 2018 trophy under Prithvi Shaw’s leadership while Dravid was the coach of the team. The former India captain was also named as the head coach of the Indian team for the Sri Lanka tour while the regular coaches were in England for the Test series and the WTC final.
