  • T20 Wc 2022 Kris Srikkanth Raises Doubts Over Ravi Ashwins Place In Indias Squad

Srikkanth raises doubts over Ashwin's place in T20 WC squad

India's leading Test spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has found it tough to cement himself a permanent spot in the 20 overs side.

Ashwin's position in the shortest format has often been questioned, with more attacking options sitting on the bench in favour of the veteran.

Former India captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth has raised doubts over the 35-year-old's inclusion in the squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022, taking place in Australia later this year.

With Washington Sundar back in contention for India, Ashwin might face tough competition as the lone off-spinner.

"Regarding Ashwin I am totally confused. Why was he not dropped, then why was he not there, then why was he not play the T20 in England and then suddenly why is he in the T20s for the West Indies?"

"Because your first spinner is Jadeja. Second is Chahal or Axar Patel or Ashwin or there will be a reserve spinner. Ideally...don't know Ashwin...may be because of his all-rounder capabilities. But my first option would be Chahal because he is the wrist spinner,” Srikkant speaking on Fancode.

Ashwin, who played his last international series against New Zealand in 2021, has picked up three wickets in the ongoing five-match T20I series versus West Indies.

The Rajasthan Royals bowler is India's fourth-highest wicket-taker in T20Is with 64 scalps from 54 games.

However, Ashwin is a constant feature in the Indian Premier League and the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).
