The talented spinner Rashid Khan thinks the exposure of players in the franchise T20 leagues has helped Afghanistan Cricket to flourish in white-ball cricket.
Recently, Afghanistan enjoyed a thumping win over Sri Lanka in their opening fixture of the Asia Cup 2022 on the back of clinical all-around performances.
Apart from Afghan spin-trio, the youngsters like Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Rahmanullah Gurbaz have now been featuring in the T20 Leagues around the world.
If the reports are to be believed, most of the Afghanistan players have shifted their base to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to avoid travel issues after the Taliban takeover last year.
The 23-year-old thinks players are making up for the lack of international cricket by uplifting their skills in the franchise T20 leagues.
What Rashid had to say
"It is about the FTP, and not in the players' hands. We want to play a lot of international cricket so that our youngsters can understand the environment to improve their skills," said Rashid to reporters.
"Since we play a lot of international leagues, it gives us the opportunity to learn from the best players.
"We bring that experience to the international team. We share that with the rest of the team."
Afghanistan in fray to book Super-Four spot
The Mohammad Nabi-led side will face Bangladesh in their second fixture of the Asia Cup on Tuesday (30 August) at Sharjah.
Currently, they are at top of the table with a staggering net run-rate of +5.176. If they manage to win this game, they will become the first team to qualify for Super-Four stage.
On the other hand, Bangladesh are coming into this tournament after losing their last T20I series against West Indies. It will be interesting to see if Shakib Al Hasan's leadership can bring fortune to the Tigers.
