Surge In Ticket Prices For India vs England Lord’s Test Next Summer

There has been a sudden surge in the prices of tickets for next year’s Lord’s Test match between hosts England and the visiting Indian cricket team. Recently, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), also the Lord’s owner, coped severe criticism from all corners after England’s Test match against Sri Lanka at the venue received a lukewarm response from fans.

Several fans and cricket fans attributed higher ticket prices behind the tepid response, as only 9,000 fans turned up on Day 4 of the match despite the ground’s capacity of holding over 31,000 spectators.

According to PTI, there has been a sudden increase in the prices of tickets for England’s blockbuster Lord’s Test match against India next year. As per the reports, the cheapest seats are priced 90 pounds each and they offer restricted views. For unrestricted views, the tickets are priced between the range of 120 and 175 pounds.

Surprisingly, the increase in prices comes in the backdrop of severe criticism faced by the MCC for the Sri Lankan Test debacle at Lord’s earlier this month. Only 9,000 spectators turned up at the stadium for the Day 4 of the match, thus drawing much surprise from fans as well as England’s interim captain Ollie Pope at the time.

After the lukewarm response of England vs Sri Lanka, MCC chief secretary and executive Guy Lavender said that they will be reviewing prices for future Test matches at Lord’s.

The Indian cricket team is set to tour England next year for a five-match Test series. The series will commence with a match at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds on June 20. The Lord’s Stadium in London will host the third match between July 10 and July 14. 

As evidenced from the last few Indian tours, England’s home series against India is ECB’s second biggest cash draw after the Ashes fixtures against age-old rivals Australia.
