It has been reported by Sri Lankan Media that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has lifted its one year ban on the trio of Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis and wicket-keeper batter Nisroshan Dickwella with immediate effect.
The decision has been taken by the board in wake of the retirement announced by in-form Bhanuka Rajapaksa who was seen as the backbone of middle-order in the absence of the three cricketers.
“Sri Lanka Cricket has decided to lift the ban imposed on Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dikwella with immediate effect. The decision has been reached during the SLC executive committee meeting held on Friday (07),” Newsfirst.lk reported.
The three players were banned for a period of one year after facing anti-disciplinary charges after the conclusion of Sri Lanka’s England tour this year.
Although there has been no official communication in this regard by SLC on its social media handles.
Just after Rajapaksa, one of the bright performers from Sri Lanka’s noteworthy T20 World Cup 2021 campaign announced his retirement from all of the international cricket citing family issues, left-handed batter Gunathilaka also announced on January 07th that he will retire from Test cricket.
In a statement where Newswire quoted the 27-year-old, he said, “It has always been an honour to play for my country and I hope to contribute to the best of my ability in the future by continuing to represent Sri Lanka whenever I am called upon to do so.”
It would be interesting to see how the SLC reacts to Gunathilaka's retirement announcement.
