South Africa reschedule Australia & England series for 2023

Cricket South Africa director, Graeme Smith has announced the pending Australia and England tours in the Rainbow Nation will be scheduled in the latter half of 2023.

According to Smith, Australia would be touring in August while the English would play during the months of February and March. Both series were earlier postponed due to Covid-19 concerns. "England, I think, is around Feb-March next year and then Australia is in August 2023 to replace the [Test series postponed in 2021]. That will be announced sometime soon," Smith said after SA’s win over India.

The national team will host Australia for a Test series while the England series will be a white ball event.

Smith agreed that the rejig will be a logistical nightmare given the Indian Premier League and the number of ICC tournaments that have been fit in the current cycle. He stated that in a bio-bubble environment, the key priority will be to manage the workload of the players.

South Africa are in a two month long bio-bubble against India and then they will go onto play New Zealand, Bangladesh, England before going into the T20 World Cup.

South Africa skipper Dean Elgar finally reacted to the DRS controversy that took place in the fourth innings of the third and final Test between the hosts and India at Newlands, Capetown. Talking about how he operates with his own players, Elgar drew a stark difference from his counterpart, Virat Kohli, saying that he tries to shy away from the cameras. “I'd like to think I've got a pretty good relationship with everyone - from the oldest player to the youngest player. I'd like to think I connect with them in a pretty good way; a special way. The guys know Dean is doing this for the right reasons. My skin is pretty thick when it comes to on-field matters and matters that value the team in a big way. You can't control anything that's happening out there. You don't want to show your emotions on camera. From that point of view, it's something I have learnt a lot and I've had to learn it quite quickly. From a captaincy point of view, it's helped me be calmer and not panicking too soon,” he said. South Africa beat India 2-1 in a series that was built up as India’s to win against one of the weakest and most in-experienced Proteas Test sides ever.

Australian stars return to Big Bash amid Covid -19 crisis

On Day 2 of the final Test match between Australia and England at Hobart, Cricket Australia have decided to release Mitchell Marsh, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Swepson and Michael Neser from the Australia team. The players will return to their respective Big Bash League teams as the tournament enters its business end. Marsh and Inglis will return to Perth Scorchers who are in desperate need of replacements after losing their top players to Covid-19, while Micheal Neser would be a great addition to Adelaide Strikers, who are looking to push for the playoffs spots. The four are scheduled to take a charter flight from Hobart to Melbourne on Sunday, 16 January to enter the Big Bash bubble. Marcus Harris and paceman Jhye Richardson will remain with the national team.

England bowlers had yet another good morning session as they wrapped up rest of the Australian side for 60-odd runs inside two hours. When England came out to bat, their usual woes with the opening order continued as Rory Burns once again left without opening his account. He was lucky to be not called out on an outside edge but then was run out while trying to complete a sharp single. At the time of writing England were 3/1 in 2.2 overs.
