  • South Africa Captain Temba Bavuma Ruled Out Of T20i Series Against Pakistan

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma ruled out of T20I series against Pakistan

South Africa’s new limited-overs captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the T20I series against Pakistan scheduled to begin on Saturday, 10 April in Johannesburg.

Bavuma picked up a grade one hamstring strain while batting in the third ODI against Pakistan in Centurion. Heinrich Klaasen will lead the home side in place of Bavuma.

"I'd be stupid to push him to try and play in these T20s. He is still staying in the squad and hope he can have a quick turnaround but it doesn't look likely that he is going to get on the park," Mark Boucher had said post the ODI series.

The South African team is missing out on some prominent players in the line up with some of them travelling to India for the IPL while there have been some injury concerns as well.

Rassie van der Dussen is struggling with grade one left quadriceps muscle strain while Dwaine Pretorius is recovering from his rib fracture. Dussen though has been named in the squad for the T20I series.

South Africa have also named four uncapped players for the four-match T20I series. Sisanda Magala, Migael Pretorius, Lizaad Williams are the three pacers while Wihan Lubbe is an off-spinner.

The first two encounters between the two sides will take place in Johannesburg before travelling to Centurion for the final two matches.

Squad: Heinrich Klaasen (c), Bjorn Fortuin, Aiden Markram, Andile Phehlukwayo, Beuran Hendricks, George Linde, Rassie van der Dussen, Janneman Malan, Sisanda Magala, Wiaan Mulder, Tabraiz Shamsi, Lutho Sipamla, Kyle Verreynne, Pite van Biljon, Daryn Dupavillon, Migael Pretorius, Lizaad Williams, Wihan Lubbe.

Lucky that we are getting to play in these hard times: Rohit Sharma

Mumbai Indians captain and India opener Rohit Sharma feels that he is lucky to be doing what he loves to do especially in these hard times. “A lot of people are going through hard times, a lot of people are not able to work, not able to do what they like to. At least we are lucky that we are getting to do what we like,” Rohit said in a video, which was posted by his franchise on Twitter. The players have to follow certain protocols as precautionary measures as they travel from one place to another. The MI skipper admitted that it is difficult to stay in bio-bubbles but said that making few adjustments isn’t a problem if the players are getting to do what they love. “If we have to adjust, we have to adjust. And try and see how you can get the best out of, you know, this bubble life as well,” Sharma said. Post the resumption of cricket after the forced Covid-19 break, India have been dominant especially in the longer format for quite some time. They first defeated Australia 2-1 in a four-match series in away fixtures and then thumped England in as many matches by 3-1 at home to march into the WTC final. The Indian team faced some struggle after a number of senior players were injured during the Australia tour and had to return back home. But the youngsters took on the onus on themselves and anchored the side to victory. Hailing the efforts from the youngsters, Sharma said that it was pleasing to see that the youngsters took on the responsibility. “… The whole world has seen what we did there in Australia. The performance we put in as a team was so pleasing to see, especially by the younger players who have just come in to the squad. Taking up the responsibility, rising to the occasion, which was so great to see,” he said. The right-handed batsman will now lead MI in the IPL 2021 which is slated to begin in Chennai on Friday. The defending champions MI will be up against Virat Kohli’s RCB in the opening encounter.

IPL 2021 | Pat Cummins relishes partnership, not rivalry with Shubman Gill

Not so long ago Pat Cummins, playing for Australia, was running giving all he had in him to dismiss Shubman Gill, who was playing for India. But two months from their last meeting at the Gabba in January, they have joined the Kolkata Knight Rides camp and there is no loss of bonhomie between them ahead of the 14th edition of the IPL starting tomorrow. Cummins commended Gill for ‘some good contests’ in the last series between India and Australia which India won 2-1. He said that Gill is young and has a mindset of taking the game by the scruff of the neck and not too seriously. Hence, he has been enjoying his time with the young batsman from Punjab. “I get along really well with Shubman. It was a great debut for him last summer in Australia. We had some good contests out in the field. I really feel happy for him, he had a great start to his Test career. He’s good, he’s young. He wants to take the game on and is really relaxed. He doesn’t take cricket or life too seriously. So it’s good fun to be with him,” Cummins said in an Instagram live arranged by the KKR franchise. Cummins has come to India to play in the IPL from Australia where he has been playing the four-day and One-day games. He was an instrumental figure in the bowling department when India toured Australia earlier this year. However, Gill went on to play a superlative knock of 91 to guide India to a historic series win in Australia.
