Sourav Ganguly still in shock about India’s defeat to England in the Edgbaston Test

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is still in utter shock as he could not figure out why India lost the rescheduled fifth Test match against England at Edgbaston Cricket Ground.

India dominated the game for the first three days, but England managed to bounce back and take the attack to them in the final two days and registered a convincing win.

The rescue job began with Jonny Bairstow's counter-attacking approach in the first innings of the England batting, where he managed to hold the fort from one end and kept England in the game. The Three Lions built on that and went on to chase a mammoth target of 378 down in the final innings of the game.

Joe Root and Bairstow smashed centuries and sealed the deal.

"In some ways, it was a freak game. Yeah, absolutely. I don't know how India lost that game," the BCCI president told Hindustan Times.

Sourav Ganguly also reflected on his time as the India captain and recalled the Chappell saga.

In an interview with The Telegraph India, Ganguly said, "This is an after-thought. When you appoint someone, you appoint someone. Then if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. That's the way life is. So I don't consider it a mistake."

He also opened up on India's historical Test match win at the Eden Gardens, where India beat Australia thanks to the iconic partnership between Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman

"That win changed Indian cricket. It changed the team. It gave the team confidence that we could win anywhere and everywhere. I think that was the turning point for our team," Sourav Ganguly said to Hindustan Times.
