The 22-year-old scored an unbeaten 160 off 408 balls until the visitors got over the finish line. He battled hard for a mammoth 524 minutes in the middle, registering the aforementioned record in this process.

Chasing 342 on the deteriorating Galle surface was expected to be an uphill task for Pakistan. However, the visitors' batting unit led by Shafique exhibited terrific grit and determination, which resulted in their stunning victory in the game.

The Sialkot-born's technique against the Sri Lankan spinners was exemplary. The stylish right-handed batter constructed his innings with utmost patience and ensured his side of a thumping win holding one end, despite wickets tumbling from the other end.

Shafique, who broke Javed Miandad's long-standing record of most runs after six Tests, was awarded player of the match for his outstanding hundred.
