India's recent loss to England in the 2nd ODI has once again put Virat Kohli under fire. In decent batting conditions at the Lord's, India was set to a target of 247 runs in 50 overs.
The fans expected a match-winning knock from India’s number three, after losing in-form opener Rohit Sharma for a duck. However, Kohli disappointed his fans yet again and walked back to the pavilion after scoring only 16 runs.
A flaw in Virat Kohli's batting technique
It was the same old story for the former skipper. The 33-year-old edged an outside-off delivery to hand an easy catch to Jos Buttler. The repeated dismissal of the batter through the same mode has raised concern in the cricket fraternity.
Many former cricketers advised Kohli to tweak his batting technique to be back amongst the runs. However, former Indian batter Ajay Jadeja doesn't agree with the idea of the Delhi-born playing on the backfoot.
Ajay Jadeja backs Kohli
Following the conclusion of the 2nd ODI, Jadeja reiterated that Kohli has scored plenty of runs with the same technique.
"Virat Kohli is a great player. Most of his runs came (from that technique). But, even in his best form, he's not the one who has ever cut the ball even when was scoring hundreds."
"If you look at him now and say, 'has he changed anything?', I don't think he has. It's just that the scores aren't coming. I would probably worry that he's getting 20s and 30s, if he had gotten out in the first 10-12 balls, it's fine because any batsman can get out then," Jadeja suggested during a show on ‘Sony Six’.

Reason behind Kohli's poor form
Jadeja further elaborated that Kohli's lean form is due to a mental aspect. The veteran is of the idea that the former skipper should play with a fresh mind. Notably, Virat is yet to play an innings of over 20 runs during the India tour of England.
The coming 3rd ODI on Sunday will be the last international game for the 33-year-old till the end of August as he has been rested for the white-ball series against West Indies.
"I know people believe that he should play on the backfoot. Obviously, sitting here on the television, everything looks easy. If he had changed anything, you could say, maybe the backfoot play is not happening."
"Show me any of his century where he plays the cut shot, and show me a shot when he has gone back and played to mid-on or mid-wicket. For me, it's the same Virat Kohli physically. I think it's the mental aspect," Jadeja concluded.
